Repair of concrete existing micro-cracks by use of microbially induced carbonate precipitation

چکیده

Micro-crack is the start of concrete deterioration and failure, though it does not decrease bearing capacity in beginning. In order to prolong service life existing structures, important repair micro-cracks before they develop into large cracks, which are much more harmful. Bio-genic CaCO 3 from microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) process proved be a promising crack material due its environmental friendliness super compatibility with cementitious matrix. this study, MICP based technology was applied micro-cracks. The influence environment technique on bio-CaCO investigated. Results shown that moderate alkali pH had limited effect properties . Bacteria could still induce if saturated Ca 2+ containing deposition medium. Crack width 0.5mm can fully sealed within days by use controlled injection technique.

Sequestration of Radionuclides and Metal Contaminants through Microbially-Induced Carbonate Precipitation

Microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP), an emerging technology for soil improvement, also may be used to sequester (biomineralize) radionuclides and metal contaminants (e.g., 90 Sr 2+ , Cd 2+ ) in groundwater, a significant problem at some U.S. Department of Energy sites. Previous work using the bacterium Bacillus pasteurii suggests that in-situ sequestration of these contaminants c...

Biotic and abiotic effects on CO2 sequestration during microbially-induced calcium carbonate precipitation.

In this study, CO2 sequestration was investigated through the microbially-induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) process with isolates obtained from a cave called 'Cave Without A Name' (Boerne, TX, USA) and the Pamukkale travertines (Denizli, Turkey). The majority of the bacterial isolates obtained from these habitats belonged to the genera Sporosarcina, Brevundimonas, Sphingobacterium ...

Microbially Induced Calcite Precipitation Employing Environmental Isolates

In this study, five microbes were employed to precipitate calcite in cohesionless soils. Four microbes were selected from calcite-precipitating microbes isolated from calcareous sand and limestone cave soils, with Sporosarcina pasteurii ATCC 11859 (standard strain) used as a control. Urease activities of the four microbes were higher than that of S. pasteurii. The microbes and urea-CaCl₂ medium...

Self-healing of Early Cracks in Cement-based Materials by Carbonic Anhydrase Microbiologically Precipitation Calcium Carbonate

ID No: 65 ABSTRACT This research studies the self-healing potential of early cracks in cement-based materials incorporating carbonic anhydrase (CA) bacteria. CA bacteria can accelerate the CO2 hydrated reaction then transfer CO2 to HCO3 which can react with soluble Ca(OH)2 on the surface of specimens. Calcium carbonate deposits because of the reaction of HCO3 with Ca.This research studies the s...

Effect of Seawater on Micro-Nano Air Bubbles Concrete for Repair of Coastal Structures

This paper investigated the effects of seawater curing of concrete made by Micro-Nano Air Bubbles (MNAB) on compressive, flexural and tensile strengths of the concrete. This product will be applicable for rehabilitation or repair of coastal RC structures. In this research, the effect of different combinations of concrete ingredients including 0-100, 25-75, 50-50, 75-25, and 100-0 percent ...
